About the Society

Woking Art Society started life in the 1920s and, apart from a short break during WW2, has been encouraging interest in all forms of the visual arts ever since. Click here to find out more about the Society’s History.

It is run by a committee of elected members and currently has around 150 members. They include both practising artists (ranging from beginners to professionals) and people who just like to watch and learn alongside friendly, like-minded individuals.
What we do

• Experts demonstrating in acrylics, mixed-media, oils, pastels, watercolour and more
• Workshops run by professional artists
• Exhibitions and competitions
• Opportunities to learn by having your own work appraised by a professional
• Broadbrush newsletter published quarterly

Monthly meetings are usually held on the first Saturday of each month. An admission fee – £2.00 for members and £5.00 for guests – is payable on the door. New members and visitors are always welcome.

Our workshops are held at Brookwood Memorial Hall. Fees are payable for these full day events and, again, non-members are welcome to participate.

The Society’s main exhibition is held at The Lightbox in Woking, with prizes awarded for the best work as judged by a panel of independent professionals and visitors to the show. In addition, members can exhibit and sell their work in Woking town centre, when we hold ‘outdoor’ exhibitions in Mercia Walk on four Saturdays each year, usually in June and September. We also run ‘pop-up’ exhibitions from time to time when a suitable opportunity arises.

Please keep an eye on the News and Exhibitions pages of this website in the coming weeks and months for the latest updates.
