Our September meeting is with professional artist Will Dyke, who will be demonstrating linocut print making.
About Will
Will's artistic path was shaped from an early age by his father, John Dyke, a well-known children's book author and illustrator for Ladybird Books. Growing up in a creative environment fostered a lifelong appreciation for illustration, storytelling, and traditional craftsmanship.
He studied Illustration and Printmaking at Harrow College of Art (now part of the University of Westminster), where he trained in traditional printmaking techniques including lithography, screen printing, etching, and block printing. Before becoming a full-time artist, Will worked in bookselling, an experience that further deepened his appreciation for narrative and continues to influence the storytelling quality of his compositions.
Today, Will specialises in hand-carved relief printmaking, primarily using woodblock and linoleum. His distinctive prints are characterised by bold, stylised textures and a strong sense of place, celebrating the beauty of the British countryside.
His work frequently depicts rural architecture, rolling landscapes, local wildlife, and seasonal historical scenes, many of which are inspired by his close association with the Weald & Downland Living Museum in West Sussex. Through his prints, Will seeks to preserve and share the character, heritage, and atmosphere of these much-loved landscapes.
