"This painting is part of a series of landscapes inspired by my time living on New Zealand’s North Island.
Working from my reference photograph, I sought to capture the shifting light through the native trees - across the mangroves and sand dunes, looking towards the Tasman Sea.
Using an expressionistic approach with oil paint and impasto, I aimed to convey the texture, luminosity and expansive atmosphere that made this view so memorable."
