About the Society

Woking Art Society started life in the 1920s and, apart from a short break during WW2, has been encouraging interest in the visual arts – sculpture, pottery and printing, as well as painting – ever since. Go to our History of Woking Art Society page to find out more about our history.

Currently the Society has over 150 members, including both practising artists (ranging from beginners to professionals) and people who just like to watch and learn alongside friendly, like-minded individuals. It is run by a committee of elected members.
What we do

• Experts demonstrating in acrylics, mixed-media, oils, pastels, watercolour and more
• Workshops run by professional artists
• Exhibitions and competitions
• Opportunities to learn by having your own work appraised by a professional
• Broadbrush newsletter published at least twice a year

The Society holds monthly meetings on the first Saturday of every month. These are run at The Vyne in Knaphill (just off Broadway, GU21 2SP). Parking is plentiful and free of charge in the nearby public car park. An admission fee – £2.00 for members and £5.00 for guests – is payable on the door and both new members and visitors are always welcome. Our workshops are held at Brookwood Memorial Hall. Fees are payable for these full day events and, again, non-members are welcome to participate.

The Society’s main exhibition is held at The Lightbox in Woking, with prizes awarded for the best work as judged by a panel of independent professionals and visitors to the show. In addition, members can exhibit and sell their work in Woking town centre, when we hold ‘outdoor’ exhibitions in Mercia Walk on four Saturdays each year, usually in June and in September. We also run "Pop-Up" exhibitions in vacant shops in the centre of Woking from time to time.

Please keep an eye on the News and Exhibitions pages of this website in the coming weeks and months for the latest updates.
